t’s one of the most common things clients ask us:
“Why does one eye always lose lashes faster than the other?”
And to be fair… it can be annoying when one side still looks full and the other side has decided to start acting up.
The good news is, it’s usually more common than you think.
It can be how you sleep
If you sleep more on one side, that side can experience more rubbing against your pillow.
Over time, that friction can make one eye shed extensions faster than the other.
You might touch one eye more
A lot of people rub, pick or touch one eye without even realising.
It might be when you’re tired, doing skincare, removing makeup, or just out of habit.
Even a little extra touching can affect retention.
Your natural lash cycle can be different on each eye
Your natural lashes are always growing and shedding.
One eye can sometimes shed a little faster than the other, which means your extensions may drop more on that side too.
Skincare and makeup can play a part
Oils, heavy creams, sunscreen and makeup remover around the eye area can affect lash retention.
If you tend to apply more product on one side, or sleep on that side after skincare, that can make a difference.
It doesn’t always mean something has gone wrong
Good lash application matters, of course.
But retention is also affected by what happens after your appointment — sleep, aftercare, skin type, lifestyle and your natural lash cycle all play a part.
What should you do?
If one eye always loses lashes faster, let us know at your refill.
We can have a look, check how your lashes are growing out, and chat through what might be causing it.
Sometimes a small change to your aftercare or sleeping habits can help.
